Dell bolsters cloud programme with NTT Com partnership #telcocloud

Source: Business Cloud News

Dell and NTT Com have announced a partnership that will see the latter join the former’s cloud service provider programme, with NTT’s cloud services being made available to Dell customers globally.

It has been about two years since Dell announced it would dump its public cloud strategy, instead choosing to develop partnerships with other leading public cloud providers and give customers a coherent set of tools (Enstratius) to help them deploy and manage workloads across those platforms.

This week the company added NTT Com’s enterprise cloud service platform, which has a stronger presence in Asia among other geos – excluding the other cloud providers NTT Com and its parent own; all told the NTT Group has datacentres in close to 200 countries.

The NTT Com platform is deployed on datacentres in 13 cities across 10 countries and 3 continents.

Nick Hyner, director of cloud services for EMEA at Dell said: “Partnering with NTT is a good strategic move for us, as it allows our customers to quickly tap into emerging markets and reap the benefits of a truly global cloud service. NTT will complement our Cloud Services Partner Program with its vertical expertise and extensive capability to manage a range of Cloud Infrastructure and Applications, along with its significant geographic reach.”

Damian Skendrovic, vice president of cloud services, NTT Europe said Dell adds value in the partnership with its hardware expertise, and by helping customers grapple with the cloud service brokerage component, which can be quite complex.

NTT Group hit the ground running this year with big plans to grow its cloud businesses. DimensionData, a South African cloud service provider owned by the company said it plans to hire over 300 datacentre operations and architecture specialists over the next 18 months. And just last week NTT Com moved to bolster its cloud and colocation presence in Germany and Austria with the acquisition of e-shelter.

Experts talk about best practices when adopting cloud technology for enterprises #cloudwf

CLOUD-WF-LogoAt London Olympia in June of 2014, The Cloud World Forum was full to the brim with industry experts and interested parties. The overall sense was one of a special time in computing. Cloud computing is more than a buzzword. The number of businesses in different industries, all offering something unique was truly astonishing.

Despite the rapid uptake of cloud technology, there still remains some people who wonder if their businesses can benefit from using cloud computing. We spoke with some experts that included keynote speakers at the event and asked them about real-life business fears of moving to the cloud. Most of the answers related to how businesses had a lack of understanding of Cloud, but some pointed to the fact that businesses need to have a sensible cloud strategy.

One of Dell’s keynote speakers, Nick Hyner, highlight the fact that Dell has actually changed their strategy to accommodate the changing marketplace in which their traditional customers operate. It was clear from his keynote address earlier that day, that customers are becoming more like consumers and that the move from capital expenditure to operational expenditure in business IT departments has required a different approach to cloud strategy for people on both sides of the market.
