China Telecom has launched its in-house IM service Yixin, cooperating with NetEase, a leading China-based Internet company. The two parties have established a joint venture company to develop and promote Yixin.

Yixin is open to China Telecom users as well as China Mobile and China Unicom users, according to reports. Beginning January 2014, China Telecom users can use Yixin without charge of data traffic.

Even though Yixin has similar features as WeChat, it also has some new functions: for example, Yixin users can send free text messages and voice messages to whomever on their phone books, no matter whether the receivers have installed Yixin app or not.
